The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) was updated by the UK’s trade negotiation team about the latest status of trade discussions with India. Formal negotiations will be resumed after the formation of the next Indian Government, likely in early June. Key issues remain outstanding. The UK government launched a three month consultation on the introduction of a UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) covering goods imports in several sectors into the UK. The BCC will be sharing their response but your thoughts will be welcome too. The deadline is Thursday 13 June and you should email internationaltrade@cambscci.co.ukNew regulations were laid last week to implement the recent Windsor Framework Command Paper recommendations on GB to NI goods movements. They are due to enter into force on 12 April and new guidance is forthcoming. The Trade (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) Act received Royal Assent last week and now awaits six CPTPP states to ratify before UK accession formally occurs. Read the BCC comments in DBT’s official release to mark this event.
