Today marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day 🇬🇧 - signalling eight decades since the end of the Second World War in Europe. During WW2 Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce served as a voice for local businesses. It liaised with government bodies to ensure that the interests of the regional business community were considered in wartime policies and decisions. Through these efforts, the Chamber not only supported the economic stability of the region but also contributed to the broader national war effort, demonstrating the vital role of local business organisations during times of crisis; something that we continue to do today. Cambridgeshire will join communities across the country in commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special beacon lighting ceremony on Castle Mound in Cambridge, tonight at 9.30pm, and will symbolise the coming together of community and the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.
